  2. Distributed in February 2002 by RA's • Given to students residing in campus- owned residence halls • 1,114 distributed; 655 returned = 59% return • 319 Freshmen, 240 Sophomores, 78 Juniors, 4 Seniors, & 14 graduate, non-degree or other

  3. Overall Satisfaction with Performance of RA • Traditional Residence Halls: • 5.79 - close to moderate satisfaction • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 5.24 - lower end of slight satisfaction • Suite-style residents less satisfied but still slightly satisfied

  4. Satisfaction with Opportunity to Participate in Council/Government within Hall • Traditional Residence Halls: • 4.75 - neutral to slightly satisfied • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 4.19 - neutral • Suite-style residents less satisfied, but not dissatisfied

  5. Satisfaction with Ability to Meet Other People in Residence Hall • Traditional Residence Halls: • 5.80 - slightly less than moderate satisfaction • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 5.51 - slightly to moderately satisfied • Suite-style residents less satisfied, but both are positive • Do suite residents tend to stay w/in own rooms more often?

  6. Satisfaction with Residence Hall Enhancing Ability to Live Cooperatively • Traditional Residence Halls: • 5.70 - close to moderate satisfaction • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 5.48 - slightly to moderately satisfied • Suite residents have more roommates to attempt to live cooperatively with

  7. Satisfaction with Residence Hall Enhancing Ability to Resolve Conflicts • Traditional Residence Halls: • 5.38 - slight satisfaction • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 5.18 -slight satisfaction • More students in a suite may lead to more conflicts (conflicting interests, etc.)

Satisfaction with Ability to Study in Own Room • Traditional Residence Halls: • 4.56 - neutral to slightly satisfied • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 5.00 - slightly satisfied • Suite-style residents less satisfied, but not dissatisfied • Goes hand-in-hand with privacy -- less roommates may make it easier to study in own room

  9. Satisfaction with Degree of Privacy • Traditional Residence Halls: • 5.37 - slightly satisfied to moderately satisfied • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 4.82 - neutral to slightly satisfied • Suite-style residents much less satisfied • One roommate vs. several roommates

  10. Extent to Which Living in Residence Hall Fulfilled Expectations • Traditional Residence Halls: • 4.74 -- neutral to slightly satisfied • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 4.65 -- neutral to slightly satisfied • Suite-style residents slightly less satisfied

  11. Overall Value of Cost vs. Quality of Residence Hall Experience • Traditional Residence Halls: • 3.62 -- neutral to slight dissatisfaction • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 3.80 -- neutral with slight dissatisfaction • Suite-style residents more satisfied

Overall Satisfaction with Living in Residence Hall • Traditional Residence Halls: • 5.34 -- Slightly satisfied • Suite-style Residence Halls: • 5.33 -- Slightly satisfied • Overall satisfaction is very similar • Surprising, considering students residing in Traditional Residence Halls typically gave higher ratings

  13. Of Interest… • Suite-style residence halls are rated lower on almost every area • When asked overall satisfaction, virtually no difference between suite-style residence halls and traditional residence halls • Students in suite-style halls were much more satisfied with value of cost vs. quality of residence hall experience
