Green Chemistry 1. Explain what is meant by the concept of “Green Chemistry”? • Green Chemistry is designing chemical products that reduce eliminate and hazardous substances. Therefore causing less damage to environment and humans.
2. List the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry and briefly explain what each principle means. • Prevention- Waste should be prevented rather then cleaned up later. • Design safer chemicals- chemicals should be deigned that don’t do as much damage to the environment. • Atom Economy – less wast should be produced and more of the initial produces should be used in the fine. • Less Hazardous Chemical Syntheses – where possible method should be used to lesion toxic to humans. • Safer Solvents and Auxiliaries – solvents should be avoided or replaced with safer chemicals. • Conserve Complexity – keep it simple to save power • Use of renewable material – material should reused rather thrown away when practical. • Reduce Derivatives – this should be done because this step can produce wast • Catalysis – A selection of Catalysis can be used • Design for Degradation – chemicals should be designed so at the end of there use they can beak down easily • Real-time analysis for Pollution Prevention – substance being produced should be monitored as they are produced to mean amount of wast. • Inherently Safer Chemistry for Accident Prevention – chemicals used should be should be chosen on the danger of Accidents that includes fire, spills, explosions.
3. The Pyrocool Fire Suppression, Pyrocool Technologies, inc. Is a company that has adopted green chemists and is working with the 12 perishables the main things the company dose is make better fire extinguisher ageists to add to water or to be used as a forme. The old fire fighting chemicals were have a wears effect on the environment in the long term then not using them in the short term.
