  1. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM)

  2. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) Cervical Mucus Method or CMM is the observation of wet and dry sensations in the vulva. The feeling of wetness and the presence of mucus secretion which is wet, slippery and clear indicate a fertile period.

  3. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) The feeling of dryness and having no secretion or the presence of pasty, non-stretchy mucus or unchanging mucus pattern a day after menstruation indicate the non-fertile period.

  4. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) This method requires the client to observe what she feels and sees and record her observations daily in chart.

  5. The CMM cannot be used by women with the following DOREMI conditions: iseases or infections that may change mucus. ther conditions that affect the ovaries or menstrual bleeding. ecently gave birth or had a miscarriage. xclusive breastfeeding. edical conditions that would make pregnancy especially dangerous. edication or drugs taken that affect cervical mucus. rregular menstrual cycle, vaginal bleeding between periods, heavy or long monthly bleeding. 6. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) To effectively practice the method, the woman must consciously observe the quality of her cervical mucus throughout the day, and also: • Record the menstruation and dry days. • Check sensation of wetness and dryness when standing and walking around.

  7. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) Record the following symbols for the types/characteristics of mucus observed: • R - menstruation or “regla”, spotting • D - dry or no mucus • M - dry with sticky, pasty, or crumbly mucus • X - wet with slippery, clear, or watery mucus • - for peak day or last day of wetness • 1,2,3 - post peak days • ♥ - dates of lovemaking X

  8. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) Early Day Rule : 1. Avoid sex on days of heavy menstruation. 2. Alternate evenings are available for intercourse when these days have been recognized as infertile (BIP). 3. Avoid sex on days of discharge or bleeding which interrupts the BIP.

  9. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) CMM Guidelines : • Menstrual days are considered fertile. • For dry days following menstruation, advise client to have sexual intercourse on alternate evenings only. • The next 3 days of dry sensation after the last day of wetness are considered fertile. • In cases where mucus immediately follows the menses, advise the client to determine if it is BIP and apply EDR as appropriate. • For short cycles, there is no pre-ovulatory period of relative infertility.

  10. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD (CMM) • Perfect Use : 97% • Typical Use : 80%
