What is Creativity? Creativity means generating outcomes that are original and of value. Originality may be in relation to one’s previous experience, to a group or it may be uniquely original. Creative thinking is also about judgment – our ability to judge the value of ideas and outputs.
Just one belief…. We all have the capacity for creative thinking to; generate and extend ideas suggest hypotheses apply imagination look for alternative innovative outcomes
Benefits of Creativity • Promoting creative thinking is a powerful way of engaging children with their learning. • Children who are encouraged to think creatively show increased levels of motivation and self esteem. • Creativity prepares them with the flexible skills they will need to face an uncertain future • Employers want people who are adaptable, innovative, can solve problems and communicate well with others. • Developing the capacity to be creative can enrich their lives and help them to contribute to a better society.
Long Term Goal / Attainment Targets To apply the 21st century approaches in my teaching practice. To develop Creative Thinking. To enhance creativity in toddlers. Seek for the answers I have in my mind about creativity and its development.
Short Term Goals / Learning Objectives To enable the kids to think proactively. To make them reflect . To encourage them to imagine. To allow them to blend and make new or silly words. To enable them to create stories, pictures, characters, dreams, goals and their own world.
Challenges Solutions • THE BIGGER PATIENCE.. • More time or days can be allotted. • Goals Achieved. • Notifications and discussions are always helpful. • There is always a next time. • THE BIG CHAOS… • Unfinished activities . • Wrong or surprising outcomes. • Parents or Head may not cooperate. • No response from the child.
Strategies • Circle time • Individual experiences • Pair work • Small Group Collaboration
Activities • Mystery objects bag • The CONNECT Game ( Blending of sounds or Words connecting a proposed word) • Smell to Tell…. • What would happen if….. ( Circle Time Discussions) • Mix and fix….(color mixing / Shapes to build new shapes • Puzzles • Sowing seeds • Puppetry/ Role play • Painting/ Drawing dreams • And countless more……..
Timeline • My goals shall be achieved; • Creative Thinking • Creativity I will focus on imagination I will focus on proactive thinking September November January March May October December February April I will focus on painting, drawing, role play. I will focus on blending I will focus on reflection
Resources • The environment • The ideas by children, colleagues and parents • Shapes cutouts and Geometrical solids • Paper , Crayons and Paints • Props ( objects) and puppets • Charts Big pictures • Books • Puzzles • Outdoor environment, plant pots, seeds • Real objects like fruits, veggies • Learning areas in the class
