Summary • Research Question • "For individuals at the SLCC campus, is the number of pets related to the number of people living in the household?” • Purpose of the Study • It was our goal to attempt to determine whether there was a discernible correlation between the number of pets in a household and the number of people living in the household. We collected our data by conducting a survey using a systematic sampling method on the SLCC campus. This presentation is a compilation of our findings including statistical data and graphs.
Statistics for the first quantitative variable, number of people in household. • Mean: 3.8 • Standard Deviation: 1.9 • Five number summary: Min X=1, Q1=2, Med=4, Q3=5 Max X=9 • Range: 8 • Mode: 2, 3, 4, 5 • Outliers: 9
Statistics for second quantitative variable, number of pets in household. • Mean: 2 • Standard Deviation: 3 • Five number summary: Min X=0, Q1=0, Med=1.5, Q3=3, Max X=16 • Range: 16 • Mode: 0, 1, 2, 3 • Outliers: 16
Simplelinear regression results: Dependent Variable: Number of People in HouseholdIndependent Variable: Number of Pets in Household Number of People in Household = 3.2582114 + 0.26645344 Number of Pets in Household Sample size: 30 R (correlation coefficient) = 0.4205 R-sq = 0.17681928 Estimate of error standard deviation: 1.7884756

Contributions • Our group agrees that we all contributed equally to put together this presentation, and in our work on the entire research project. • Jason started the PowerPoint, and entered all of our data. Jill contributed to editing/layout/format and design, and Ann Marie summarized our presentation, with some editing as well. We continuously e-mailed the presentation back and forth to each other for approval and adjustments. • We attempted several times to involve our fourth member. He responded only once, in the beginning with, a statement similar to “I don’t know when I can ever meet with you guys.” We ceased attempts after several tries.
