  5. A spinal cord injury (SCI) refers to an injury to the spinal cord.

  6. Injury to spinal cord can vary in degrees of loss of function and paralysis

  14. Five common conditions can result from a  Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) :

  15. 5 Common TBI Conditions _______________________ Concussion - Skull Fracture - Hematoma – Epidural / Subdural Brain Contusion - Amnesia – Anterograde / Retrograde

  16. Concussion – a non-penetrating blow to the head

  17. (2) Skull Fracture - generally due to large amount of force applied to the head

  18. (2) Hematoma – Epidural Subdural

  19. Epidural Hematoma ____________________________ A collection of blood between the dura

  20. Subdural Hematoma ____________________________ Caused by a tearing of a bridging vein

  21. Brain Contusion – Is a bruise found under or opposite from the side of the impact

  22. Amnesia – Anterograde / Retrograde ____________________________

  23. Anterograde amnesia - Inability to remember events beginning with the onset of the injury. Retrograde amnesia - Loss of memory regarding events preceding the injury.
