Workshop Warm-Up Discussion DICE • Introduce yourself to others at your table. Give your name, name and location of your school or district, and position or role (parent, teacher, administrator, etc.) • Roll the dice. Match the sum of the dice to a topic below. The purpose of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is to raise the academic performance of all students to the level of state achievement standards. • California Education Code sections 41507, 41572, and 64001 and the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) require each school to consolidate all school plans related to state and federal funding. District-level English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) California public school district, grades kindergarten through 12, with 51 or more English learners must form a District-level English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) or subcommittee of an existing district-wide advisory committee. • English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) California public school, grades kindergarten through 12, with 21 or more English learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). • School site council (SSC) leadership Education Code Section 52852 (formerly 52012) specifies that a school improvement plan shall be developed by a school site council (SSC). • District Advisory Council (DAC) School districts receiving Economic Impact Aid (EIA)/State Compensatory Education (SCE) are required to establish a district advisory committee (DAC) and a school advisory committee (SAC) for the purpose of advising districts and schools regarding compensatory education programs. • Single plan for student achievement The purpose of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is to raise the academic performance of all students to the level of state achievement standards.

(e) BUILDING CAPACITY FOR INVOLVEMENT- To ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement, each school and local educational agency assisted under this part — • CA Education Code Section 51101 (16 (b) Education Code Section 51101.1. Specifically, involving parents and guardians of pupils in the education process is fundamental to a healthy system of public education. • CA Education Code Section 64000-64001 (a) The provisions of this part shall apply to applications for funds under the following categorical programs: • CA Education Code Section 41507, 41572, and 64001 and the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) • Federal Program Monitoring, (FPM) English Learner Program Local Educational Agency Regional Training.
No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title 1, Part A Section 1118, • BUILDING CAPACITY FOR INVOLVEMENT- To ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement, each school and local educational agency assisted under this part — • Shall Provide 1,2,3,4,5, & 14
(1) shall provide assistance to parents of children served by the school or local educational agency, • (2) shall provide materials and training to help parents to work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, • (3) shall educate teachers, pupil services personnel, principals, and other staff, with the assistance of parents, • (4) shall, to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs and activities with other programs, • (5) shall ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to the parents of participating children in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand; • (14) shall provide such other reasonable support for parental involvement activities under this section as parents may request.
