  1. How to Hyperlink • A quick tutorial on how you can hyperlink video to your multimedia presentation. • Hyperlinking is different than imbedding a video as a hyperlink works anytime you have web access. • Imbedding works as long as the computer or flash drive has a copy of the video on it. • The problem with imbedding is, the OLS submission or the flash drive copy often does NOT have a copy of the video from your home computer—that is why hyperlinking can be easier and more effective

  2. How to Hyperlink • You can attach a link to anything in a PowerPoint presentation • A picture, word, or a symbol • I use a star on my slides as it reminds me I have a hyperlink • To insert a shape, go to either the Home Tab and look under Drawing OR the Insert Tab and find Shapes. Click on a shape, drag the crosshairs to where you want it (do not worry, you can move it) and then hold down the right mouse to make it bigger or smaller. • If too big or small, click on the shape and you can pull the edges to make it larger/smaller • Here is the star shape with no hyperlink attached…yet

  3. How to Hyperlink • Now that you have a picture, a word or a shape, you can hyperlink to it. • Really all hyperlink does is assign a web address to a part of your presentation. • In this case, I want to hyperlink a video to a picture of a guitar. So I used clipart to insert the guitar, now I go the video I want to show. • Since next week is the late 60s, I want to link to a clip from Woodstock that is on YouTube

  4. Web Address • If you notice, each video on YouTube (or others on the web) have a unique web address. Here is the address for the video I chose of Santana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLDalZ4-53g • Notice how the above is blue, if you paste in a web address, the blue means it has hyperlinked for you! This is one way to hyperlink…copy the web address from the top of the page with the video and simply paste it in you presentation. • Same idea to hyperlink from a picture, or clip art, or star, it just takes one more step.

  5. Web Address • If you right click on any picture, it opens what is called the alternate menu. • Look about 2/3rds of the way down and click hyperlink. You will then see this page. Make sure you have Existing Web Page or File clicked and then paste the address in the address window at the bottom

  6. Web Address • Again I have the guitar, a picture, and a star at the bottom. If you right click on these, it opens the alternate menu • Look about 2/3rds of the way down and click hyperlink. • Now paste in your web address for the video • Each of the below have a hyperlink…but how can I check it? • Easiest way to see if you link works is to go to slideshow mode (where the Powerpoint fills the screen) and put the cursor over the picture. If you did it correctly, the point turns in to a finger symbol AND shows the web address of the hyperlink! Now click it and it should open a new page…and play your video! • We will step through this in class again!
