Presentation Transcript

  1. Forms of Energy • Thermal • Chemical • Electrical • Sound • Light • Nuclear

  2. Thermal Energy • All of the kinetic energy due to random motion of the particles that make up an object

  3. Changes of State • http://lgfl.skoool.co.uk/content/keystage3/chemistry/pc/learningSimulations/COSSC/launch.html

  4. Thermal Energy • Gas – high temperature, particles moving fast, particles far apart • Liquid – medium temperature, particles moving slower, particles closer together • Solid – low temperature, particles vibrate in place, particles close together

  5. Chemical Energy • The energy of a compound that changes as its atoms are rearranged

  6. Electrical Energy • The energy of moving electrons

  7. Sound Energy • Caused by an object’s vibrations

  8. Nuclear Energy • The energy that comes from changes in the nucleus of an atom

  9. Light Energy • Produced by the vibrations of electrically charged particles

  10. Reflected • Bouncing of a wave off a surface

  11. Refracted • The bending of a wave as it moves from one material to another

  12. Transmitted • Transparent objects transmit light – or allow light to pass through

  13. Absorbed • Energy of light is taken up by matter in an object. Objects take on the color of the light they reflect. All other colors are absorbed.
