Oxygen Release Compound (ORCÒ) Timely, Cost-Effective Solutions for Accelerating Natural Attenuation
What is ORC? • A proprietary time-release formulation ofmagnesium peroxide (MgO2) • Used for accelerated bioremediation of aerobically degradable contaminants • Chemistry • MgO2 + H2O 1/2 O2 + Mg(OH)2
ORC’s Patented Time-Release Feature • Typical MgO2 releases oxygen for only 3-4 weeks due to “Lockup” • Typical CaO2 releases for 3-4 weeks (Lockup) and presents pH problem • Patented structure of ORC crystal allows for continued release of oxygen by avoiding Lockup and moderate pH
ORC’s Patented Time-Release Feature • Extended oxygen release profile • Magnesium peroxide crystalline structure intercalated with food-grade phosphate • Releases oxygen for up to 6 to 12 months • Environmentally Safe • Insoluble Mg compounds maintain moderate pH levels (Ksp = 1.8 x 10-11) • Safe reaction by-product : solid Mg(OH)2 or “Milk of Magnesia”
Benefits of ORC’s Time-Release Feature Rapid Site Closure - Accelerates natural attenuation by 10X to 1000X—reducing time to site closure Cost-Effective - No capital costs for systems - No operation & maintenance costs - Reduced installation costs
ORC vs Other Technologies ORC vs Monitoring Only • *All values were derived independently by the sites’ consultant. The costs are full system costs with the objective of site closure
Benefits of ORC’s Time-Release Feature Non-invasive • In-situ technology minimizes physical disturbance to property Wide regulatory acceptance • Installed in all 50 states of US Proven technology • Installed on >6,500 sites worldwide
Aerobically Degradable Compounds • Petroleum Hydrocarbons • BTEX • Alkanes (diesel, fuel oil, etc.) • Alcohols • Ketones • MTBE • Vinyl Chloride • Etc.
Oxygen Release Compound (Applications) • Saturated Zone Source Treatment • ORC slurry injected into source area • Excavated Tank Treatment • ORC applied as backfill amendment after UST excavations • Oxygen Barrier-PRB • ORC socks or slurry applied downgradient to cut-off leading edge of plume or upgrad- ien to sweep oxygen across plume
Source Treatment with Slurry Injection Application ORC slurry is poured into the hopper of a Slurry Injection Pump ORC powder is mixed with water to form a slurry Direct-push injection of slurry
Is ORC right for your project?Follow these steps to find out! • Step #1 – Contact Regenesis Technical Support for a free site evaluation, cost estimate and proposal. • Step #2 – Evaluate free ORC Proposal, determine if it meets your requirements and goals • Step #3 – If so, you can order ORC directly from Regenesis over the phone at (949) 366-8000
Steps to obtaining HRC - contn’d • Step #4 - ORC is typically shipped by truck, and is delivered in 30 lb. buckets or Filter Socks as specified *Note: MSDS and installation instructions are supplied. • Step #5 - Receive product and apply to your site.
