Sustainability in Prisons Project - Supporting Prairie Restoration - A presentation by Carl Elliott Monday, March 11th 7:00 PM Washington State Capital MuseumCoach House 211 SW 21st Avenue; Olympia, WA Carl Elliott will present Washington State’s Sustainability in Prisons Project (SPP) and its support for projects aimed at south sound prairies. He will discuss work being done to breed and rear Taylor’s checkerspot butterfliesand will discuss SPP efforts in propagating 400,000 native flowers and grasses each year to restore prairie habitat. These efforts not only support prairie preservation , but also provide valuable skills in native plant ecology and seed production to inmates working on these projects. Currently working to expand plant propagation activities to a variety of prisons in Washington State, Carl brings more than two decades of professional experience to SPP, including ten years of weekly shows on KUOW’s Weekday as its “Plantman.” Having earned a B.S. degree from Evergreen State, Carl is now focusing his graduate studies on research and restoration of threatened plants in South Puget Sound prairies.
