Disease • In the late 1800’s cholera & typhus was the type of diseases that people could catch: caused by many bacteria. • Most of the time when people drink tap water it cause them to have bacteria going in their body. • Avoiding the disease is having to avoid contaminate food & water.
Water • New York and Cleverland built public water works to prevent people from getting disease also to stop them from getting thirsty. • Cities faced the problems of supplying safe drinking water. • To make cities safer, filtration was introduced in the 1870s.
Sanitation • Dead horses piled up on the streets (to no one to pick them up). Also people dumped their trash on the streets even though people were hired to cleaned them. • Private contractors didn’t do there job properly. • Around the 1900 many cities created sanitations departments.
My Opinion • If I was in charge to fix problems, I would try to built a public works program in each streets to prevent people from getting diseases. Residents should take the role of sharing what they have with others who are poorer. Preventing disease was best advancement they wont have to worry about the food being contaminated.
