Outlook of Industry Significant Points: • Many young people worked as cooks and food preparation workers—almost 20 percent were between 16 and 19 years old. • More than 2 out of 5 food preparation workers were employed part time. • Job openings are expected to be plentiful, primarily reflecting substantial replacement needs in this large occupation.

Compensation/Salary Restaurant Manager: • The median wage for restaurant managers is $2,980 per month ($17.21 per hour). • Half of all restaurant managers earn between $2,330 and $3,930 per month ($13.42 and $22.65 per hour). Pantry Cook: • The average earnings for an entry level worker is $14,836 • The average earnings for a worker is $17,239
Compensation/Salary Cook: • Median hourly earnings of chefs and head cooks were $13.43 • The middle 50 percent earned between $9.86 and $19.03. • The lowest 10 percent earned less than $7.66, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $25.86 per hour.
