Anglo-Zulu War • Began because of an ultimatum with 13 terms • Battle of Isandlwana • January 22, 1879 • 20,000 Zulus with spears, cow-hide shields, and some muskets against 1,800 British, 400 civilians, equipped with Martini-Henry breech-loading rifles. • Was important because despite the big disadvantage in technology, the Zulus defeated the British, killing 1,300 troops. • However, this led the British to reorganize their tactics, and went on the win the rest of the battles of the war.
