  4. About Fairtrade Schools • 5 goals • More than just a certificate • London – borough networks/building community • Enhancing the school curriculum • Citizenship and current climate in London • Developing leaders and effective contributors

  5. Goal 3: Our school is committed to selling, promoting and using Fairtrade products as much as possible. If we have problems we can at least show that we have tried and will continue trying. • Tuck shop • Staff room tea, coffee and chocolates • Staff gifts • Special events • cooking • Uniforms • Fruit • School lunches

Goal 4:Our whole school learns about Fairtrade in at least three subjects in each of two year groups. • Direct Link to Subjects • Humanities • Geography • Citizenship • Indirect Links • P.E. • Enterprise projects/whole class projects e.g Charlie and the Chocolate Factory • Maths • English • Art and more…

  7. Goal 5: Our school promotes and takes action for Fairtrade at least once a term in the school and at least once year in the wider community. This way it becomes a regular part of what we do and allows everyone to take part in helping to bring about a fairer world. • Coffee morning • Trail in the community • School’s own Fairtradereuseablebags • Tea dance • Fashion show • Mural/collage for school or a local place • Writing to your MP

The Challenge of Persuading Reluctant Teachers • Hold an inset for the staff • Have powerpoint playing in the staffroom • Speak to the teachers one on one • Have the key teachers on board that are interested • Present lessons/ideas/resources when going to speak • Show examples of other school’s work • Give an example of how its changed one persons life.
