Week 1 • Mothers last menstruation • In a 38 week system, this is week -2.
Week 3 • The baby is created!!! • Fertilization of the egg • Implantation • In a 38 week system, this is week 1.
Week 4 • Mothers missed period • Cell differentiation begins
Week 5 • Length = 0.1 in • Brain, spinal cord, heart begin to develop • Gastrointestinal tract begins to develop
Week 6 • Length = 0.2-0.3 in • Tissue for vertebrae forms • Heart beat is regular and blood flows • Brain develops into 5 areas • Arms and legs begin to develop
Week 8 • Length = 0.5 in • Lungs begin to develop • Arms and legs continue to develop
Week 9 • Length = 0.7 in • All essential organs are formed or have begun to form
Week 10 • Length = 1.2 in • Pregnancy detectable by exam • Head looks human • Eyelids are developed • Ear begins to form externally
Week 11 • Length = 2.0 in • Weight = 0.3 oz • Eyelids closed (wont open again until week 30)
Week 12 • Length = 2.4 in • Weight = 0.5 oz • Form recognizable as human • Responds to stimulation • Fingernails begin to develop
Week 14 • Length = 3.4 in • Weight = 1.6 oz • Essential organs formed • Circulatory system works • Sex is distinguishable • Fist can be made
Week 16 • CONGRATULATIONS - its your 2nd trimester • Length = 4.7 in • Weight = 3.9 oz • Mother shows • Skeleton can be seen in x-ray • Toe-nails develop
Week 18 • Length = 5.5 in • Weight = 7.1 oz • Baby can suck • Sex organs distinct • Meconium is made
Week 20 • HALF WAY DONE!!! • Length = 6.3 in • Weight = 11.3 oz • Vernixcaseosa covers skin (white sticky substance) • Quickening can be felt by mother
Week 22 • Length = 7.5 in • Weight = 1 lb • Head and body has hair • Babies movement increases
Week 24 • HUGE WEEK!!!! • Length = 8.3 in • Weight = 1.4 lbs • survive outside womb POSSIBLE with help • Would need medical help for extended period
Week 26 • Length = 9.1 in • Weight = 1.8 lbs • Eyes developed • Startle reflex • Foot and finger prints develop • Air sacs form in lungs
Week 28 • ENORMOUS WEEK!!!! • Length = 9.8 in • Weight = 2.2 lbs • Survival outside womb PROBABLE with medical help
Week 30 • BEGIN 3rd TRIMESTER • Length = 10.6 in • Weight = 2.9 lbs • Eyes open again • Storage of minerals begins • Iron, Calcium, Phosphorous
Week 32 • Length = 11.0 in • Weight = 3.7 lbs • Fat forming on baby (until birth)
Week 34 • Length = 11.8 in • Weight = 4.6 lbs • Fingernails grow to end of finger • Skin smooth
Week 35 • MONSTEROUS WEEK!!!!! • SURVIVAL OUTSIDE WOMB EXPECTED • Without medical help
Week 38 • Length = 13.4 in • Weight = 6.4 lbs • Body plump • Body hair gone • Firm grasp
Week 40 • Length = 14.2 inches crown to rump 20 inches head to toe • Weight = 7.5 lbs • BABY IS DUE!!!! • Baby can come up to 2 weeks late • Usually a c-section is scheduled after 2 weeks
