LES RELACIONS Els organismes, per utilitzar l’energia, s’han de relacionar amb l’entorn, tant abiòtic com biòtic, i en conseqüència també amb la resta d’organismes. Hi ha dos tipus de relacions: intraespecífiques i interespecífiques. Relació presa–depredador Relacions tròfiques Comensalime Relacions tròfiques col·laterals Parasitisme Relacions interespecífiques Mutualisme Competència Altres relacions interespecífiques no-tròfiques Tanatocresi Forèsia

El cicle de la matèria i el flux de l’energia DEMOGRAFIA DE POBLACIONS El pas de matèria i d’energia a través dels diferents nivells de l’ecosistema es pot comptabilitzar per mitjà del naixement, del creixement, de la reproducció i de la mort dels individus, ja que es tracta d’etapes transitòries del cicle de nutrients i d’energia i, per tant, es poden considerar com a unitats discretes de mesura d’aquestes magnituds. Per estudiar el moviment demogràfic se solen utilitzar els paràmetres següents:
