  1. Rat Dissection Systems Respiratory, Central Nervous, and Urinary Tract By Courtney Nelson

  2. Respiratory System • Lungs are the respiratory organs. The passage way for air is formed by external nostrils, pharynx, larynx, trachea and bronchi. Lungs contain large number of minute alveoli in which external respiration takes place. Surrounding the lungs and the heart is a thoracic cage containing long, curved bones called ribs. Below the lungs is a diaphragm which divides the trunk into an upper thorax and a lower abdomen. The ribs and the diaphragm play a major role in the breathing movements inspiration and expiration.

  3. Central Nervous System • The brain and its system of a rat is a lot like that of a human’s. It basically has the same functions but some of them will probably be more specified to the species needs. • The cerebellum integrates reflex information and is responsible for integrated muscular activities such as walking. The cerebrum is responsible for the coordination of voluntary movements and the interpretation of the senses. Memory and learning are also associated with this portion of the brain. The medulla oblongata is connected to the spinal cord, which passes through the vertebrae . Breathing, digestion, and heart rate are controlled by messages from the this part.

  4. Drawing of a rats brain Basic drawing of rat anatomy.
