ANAMA: GENERAL INFORMATION • Established by Presidential Decree - July 1998 • UNDP and GOA Joint Project signed - April 02, 1999 • HQ established - April 1999 • Regional Office established - March-April 2000 • First Clearance Team trained - July 2000 • General Survey conducted - Dec 2000 - Aug 2001 • National Monitoring and Training Team established - Oct 2001 • National Site Supervisors trained - Sept 2002 • Accepted as a Member of SEEMACC - Feb 2002 • Operate together with 3 implementing partners

  4. VISION THE POPULATION OF AZERBAIJAN FREE FROM THE IMPACT OF MINES AND UNEXPLODED ORDNANCE.

MISSION TO MAKE THE POPULATION OF AZERBAIJAN AND THEIR PROPERTIES FREE FROM THE IMPACT OF MINES AND UXO THROUGH ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INSTITUTION CAPABLE OF UNDERTAKING MINE/UXO CLEARANCE, COMMUNITY BASED MRE AND VICTIM SUPPORT PROGRAMMES ON THE ACCESSIBLE AREAS AS WELL AS THE PRESENTLY OCCUPIED AREAS, ONCE THEY ARE LIBERATED, IN A SUSTAINABLE MANNER.

  6. HISTORY OF CONFLICT • Conflict with Armenia (1988-1994) • Cease-fire since May 1994 • Twenty percent of Azerbaijan territory is occupied (apprx.17.3 thousands sqkm.) • Approximately 1 mln. people became IDPs (apprx. 15% of the total population of 8 mln.)

EUCOM 2002/2003 OUTCOMES • Manual deminers / 56 trained • UXO Specialists/ 15 trained/ 14 graduated + 5 UXO Specialists • 4 paramedics • 3 mine action instructors • Enhancement of ANAMA HQ staff management skills • Enhancement of Mine Awareness skills of the staff formed MA Cell organic to ANAMA, especially in developing education materials • Equipment for the teams • Expansion of ANAMA Training Facility

SEE Regional IMSMA Workshop in Baku • Two Trainers from Geneva Center and participants from Albania and Serbia & Montenegro were at IMSMA workshop in Baku • First step of the Workshop was implemented for ANAMA managerial staff • Second stage was conducted in regions where ANAMA currently operates
