Life On The I.S.S By Dylan, Sean and Seb
Sanitation In Space: Sanitation in space is waste disposal just like it is on earth. Sanitation Is a lot more dangerous as micro organisms and bacteria grow and spread at a more alarming rate.
How Astronauts Shower and use the bathroom in space. • Diapers are used in liftoff • The toilet used is very similar as it uses air to suck out the waste, • When showering they spray water on them as it floats to them using a nozzle and then they vacuum the water off them.
What special sanitation issues do astronauts face that those of us on earth don’t worry about? • Can’t flush the toilet • Reuse shower water • Eating utensils and trays are cleaned with wet wipes • Microbes can kill people in microgravity
Do they have to wash dishes or laundry • the people on board the I.S.S change their clothes in plastic bags • The astronauts store their food in plastic containers • Some of the waste or dirty clothes go back to earth
How do they keep living quarters clean • The living quarters are cleaned regularly • Some times they wipe the living quarters with wet wipes • Also the astronauts need to use special razors and shaving cream to keep their hair from being a nuisance
