Photocopying • Available in the main office • You should have a password (number) for the photocopier. If not, talk to Linda or Heather • Two accounts, personal and educational ... make sure you know the difference!
Printing Get your pages through PAWS • Three printers generally available: • Spinks360bw1 • Spinks315bw1 • Spinks311bw1 • Don’t print to any printers not labelled bw1, it won’t work • Your lab may have a printer, ask your supervisor • Help is available from Seth/Merlin for printing problems
Undergraduate Labs • 3rd floor Spinks • Help desk, two large labs, breakout rooms, etc. • Commons (S360) contain half linux, half windows • Mac OS available in S??? and breakout rooms • Use any machine, any time.
Linux command line • Google is your friend • You have disk space at /student/[NSID] also known as ~/ • Log in on any computer in Spinks • Learn cp, mv, mkdir, chmod, chown, rm ... you’ll need them in tutorials/labs/help desk work
Remote Log-in ssh -- Secure Shell usage: ssh [options] [username]@[hostname] common options: -l [username] login name -D [port] port e.g.: ssh -l [NSID] stealth16.usask.ca ssh [NSID]@stealth16.usask.ca
Where should I ssh? In order…. • stealth37 to stealth50 • stealth20 to stealth36 • stealth1 to stealth19 • penguin Names of machines are “stealth”, “morph”, and “penguin” Last resort: tuxworld
Getting to Windows Remotely • rdesktop to discworld • Same disk space
Student Help/Handin Services • iHelp -- online forums and chat for students. Any tutorials you teach will use this extensively, in all likelyhood • eHandin -- secure handin folders for undergraduate/graduate classes • Demo
Department Intranet • Event sign up/administration • Job sign up (for department jobs) • eHandin access • Room and equipment booking • much more, depending on your permissions
