WEATHER – Part II Moisture/Weather Patterns/Weather Prediction. 4 lifting processes for air and moisture. 1) Convergence. 2) Orographic Lift. DALR is always -10 degrees lifting and +10 degrees sinking WALR is varies but usually -5 to -7 (only lifting) – WHY is this?.

WEATHER – Part II Moisture/Weather Patterns/Weather Prediction
DALR is always -10 degrees lifting and +10 degrees sinking WALR is varies but usually -5 to -7 (only lifting) – WHY is this?
3) FRONTAL LIFT (WEDGING)COLD FRONTCold air mass invades warm air mass. Cold (denser) air pushes up warm (less dense) air. If warm air holds moisture, thunderstorms can develop. WHY?
Warm FrontWarm air invades colder air. Warm air (less dense) rises gently over cold air (denser). If warm air has moisture, rain showers or moderate storms may develop.
FRONTAL PRECIPITATIONCold fronts: Cold air wedges up warm moist air = Moderate to large thunderstorms at warm/cold boundary.Warm fronts: Warm air gradually rises. Light to moderate rain ahead of the warm air mass
