  3. Government • Where: DOE, NRC, National Labs, CIA • Jobs: Program Manager, Researcher, Inspector, Analyst • Education: Most require a college degree • Can range from BS to PhD

  4. Government/Military • Where: Navy, Naval Reactors (Bettis, KAPL, and others), other branches • Jobs: Reactor Operator, Instructor, Designer • Education: ranges from High School diploma to PhD

  5. Utilities • Where: Nuclear Power Plants • Jobs: Reactor Operator, Equipment Operator, Shift Technical Advisor, Core Designer, Safety Analysis • Education: High School Diploma to MS/PhD

  6. Power Industry • Where: Reactor Vendors, Engineering Firms • Jobs: Designer, Core Analysis, Engineering Support • Education: BS,MS and PhD

  7. Medical • Where: Hospitals, Clinics, Labs • Jobs: X-ray Technician, Nuclear Medicine, Research, Equipment Design • Education: High School to BS, MS, PhD, M.D.

  8. Academia • Where: Colleges and Universities • Jobs: Professor, Researcher, Reactor Operator/staff • Education: Most require College Degree: BS, MS, PhD

Why NS&T careers? • There’s a need for people! • The demand exceeds the supply of graduates trained in nuclear science and technology. • Many nuclear professionals are retiring • Nuclear Engineers have the 2nd highest median income among the engineering professions at $99,920/year. (US Bureau of Labor Statistics, bls.gov, May 2010) • Health Physicists have nearly as high a median salary, $96,250/year (Health Physics Society, 2012)
