Planning an Event • 6-12 months in advance – identify event, possible venue, chairperson and purpose • Discuss event with AA&D staff and get Charity Auction form • Identify possible donations and strategize volunteer “solicitations” • Publicize, publicize and then publicize some more!
Who gets credit for what… • Vendor Donations • Individuals / Businesses received “Other Credit” from Cornell • Items purchased at an auction • Gift Credit vs. “Other Credit” • FMV of item vs. winning bid
IRS Publication 526 • Cannot deduct the value of your time or services • Acceptable deductions: • Unreimbursed • Directly connected with the services • Expenses you had only because of the services you gave • No personal, living or family expenses
