Guiding questions… • What are the implications for your general practices around planning and assessment? • How will you design your assessments to support and mirror curriculum content? • How will you create assessment tasks that address the varied needs of your students? • How will you determine what student understanding will look like?
Social Studies - exemplars • Let’s have a look at Social Studies exemplars • Do these sample tasks reflect opportunities for students to demonstrate multiple intelligences? • Do the tasks serve as effective tools to determine skills and knowledge? • Would the tasks offer students ways of demonstrating higher levels of understanding?
Assessment • After looking at the way in which the responses to the tasks are assessed, what questions are raised for you?
Descriptive Feedback • Research has shown that feedback can have powerful positive effects on student learning and engagement • Not all feedback supports learning, what makes feedback effective • Effective feedback is directly connected to learning goals and success criteria which have been shared and clarified with students
Descriptive Feedback • Teachers use descriptive feedback to help students to become increasingly less dependent on the teacher for feedback, and more able to monitor their own progress and determine next steps
