Question 1 Identify the null and alternative hypothesis. An entomologist writes an article in a scientific journal which claims that fewer than 7 in ten thousand male fireflies are unable to produce light due to a genetic mutation. p= 0.0007 p< 0.0007
Question 2 Identify the null and alternative hypothesis. Carter Motor Company claims that its new sedan the Libra, will average better than 26 miles per gallon in the city. However, a recent study of 500 Libras found an average of 24 miles per gallon. = 26 > 26

Question 4 Test the given claim. A random sample of 100 pumpkins is obtained and the mean circumferences is found to be 40.5 cm. Assuming that the population standard deviation is known to be 1.6cm, use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that the mean circumference of all pumpkins is equal to 39.9 cm. Reject the null hypothesis. There is sufficient evidence to reject Our sample data suggests the mean circumference of all pumpkins is not equal to 39.9 cm.
Question 5 Test the given claim. In Oswego, monthly incomes for men with college degrees was found to have a standard deviation of $650. Use a 0.01 significance level to test the claim that for men without college degrees in Oswego, incomes have a higher standard deviation. A normally distributed random sample of 22 men with college degrees resulted in incomes with a standard deviation of $926. Reject the null hypothesis. There is sufficient evidence to reject . Our sample suggests the standard deviation is greater than $650.
Question 6 Test the given claim. A light-bulb manufacturer advertises that the average life for its light bulbs is 900 hours. A normally distributed random sample of 15 of its light bulbs resulted in the following lives in hours: 995, 590, 510, 539, 739, 917, 571, 555, 916, 728, 664, 693, 708, 887, 849 Test the claim at 0.01 significance level. Reject the null hypothesis. There is sufficient evidence to reject Our sample suggestions the mean life in hours is not equal to 900.
