WHO Accredits US?
The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (C.F.A.)
Compliance Our Department is required to comply with 231 standards; 140 are mandatory.
Re-Accreditation Is Scheduled For 3 Days:July 25, 26, & 27th July 2007
Accreditation: • Is notmandatory! • Does not dictate “how” we accomplish our goals, mission, or delivery of services. • Does nottell us who to hire, fire, or promote. • Is not forever. We are reaccredited every 3 years.
Department Members are integral to the process! • They assist the Accreditation Manager: • With maintaining up-to-date written procedures • Providing “proofs” for file building
How can I be prepared (Sworn & Civilian Personnel)? • Sworn personnel: Familiarize yourself with high liability General Orders; Officers can expect to have a ride-along assessor – they love to ask questions and to see our folks in action. • Civilian personnel: Familiarize yourself with procedural G.O.’s, and any Division/Section Standard Operating Procedures that apply to your job.
How can I be prepared? (All Personnel) • Review the questionnaire that your supervisor will be giving you as an overview of what the assessors may ask you. • MAKE SURE YOUR TRAINING IS CURRENT! • Make sure all of your equipment is functional, has been inspected, HAVE EVERYTHING YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO, and nothing is expired. • Make sure all work areas are clean and secured. • Act and look professional – everyone’s appearance goes a long way during assessments! • If you don’t know the answer, just say so, and tell the assessor you know where to find it.
Have Confidence! • You are the subject matter experts – show the assessors that you’re made of the right stuff! • Show off what you know, show that you do your job well, and it will reflect positively on the Department, impress the assessors, and help us in our goal of achieving re-accreditation.
