WELCOME TO UNITED STATES HISTORY I Mrs. Mathes
High School/College • Went to Necedah High School • Volleyball Basketball Softball • Bachelor of Science in Secondary History Education • Minor in Coaching • Psychology, Government, Economics, Social Studies.
You need to respect me as your teacher, your fellow students, this classroom, and materials given to you. • Keep in mind that respect is earned. I plan to earn yours. • Everyone has a right to learn and I have a right to teach. • If you interfere with those rights, you will be dealt with accordingly.
Polite and respectful at ALL TIMES!!! • Say “Please” and “Thank You.” • NO SWEARING!!! • Be honest with me and with others. • Treat others like you would want to be treated. • When I am talking, your hand is down and you are looking at me.
No one is to be in my desk, behind my desk, or in the shelves without my permission. • The stapler, tape, etc. on my desk is for MY USE!!!! • If I need to leave the room, you are to remain in your seat. • When you come in for class you sit in your assigned seat. When the 2nd bell rings you should be quiet. • The bell DOES NOT dismiss you, I DO!!!
What to Bring to Class • Textbook • 2 spiral notebooks SPECIFICALLY FOR HISTORY. Nothing else!!!! • A folder • Red pen or highlighter • Writing utensil
Learning Methods • Taking notes • Study guides. • Vocab. • Tests • Projects • Hands on activities
Extra Credit • You will never just sit in my class. • There is plenty of extra credit to do.
Assignments/Homework – 50% of your grade • Assignments – you must turn it the day it is due at the START OF CLASS!!!! • In most cases, if the assignment is not turned in on time, you will receive no credit. • Being absent is an exception to this rule. • YOU are responsible to get assignments and notes on days that you are absent.
Tests – 40% 0f your grade • If you have all of your homework turned in for the current chapter that we are on and you want to get a higher grade on your test, you can retake it. • The test will be retaken during ELTthe following day unless there is a conflict. • Information on the study guides AND the notes will be on the test. • You cheat – automatic “0” and I probably won’t like you for the rest of the year.
Grading 100%-94% - A 93%-92% - A- 91%-90% - B+ 89%-85% - B 84%-83% - B- 82%-81% - C+ 80%-76% - C 75%-74% - C- 73%-72% - D+ 71%-67% - D 66%-65% - D- 64% and Below - F Check your grades online I don’t give grades YOU EARN THEM!!!!
Citizenship – 10% of your grade • Your behavior, participation, and your attitude in my classroom matters. • You will be graded on it. • An unexcused tardy effects your citizenship grade. • 3 tardies = 1 detention
Summing Up!!!! • We have three very basic rules that should cover all behaviors and work habits. • 1. Do your best – be prompt and prepared for class. • 2. Be polite. • 3. Respect yourself, others, and property. • Remember, we are family now, whether you like it or not. :0)
Our Attitude is the Key to Success: • Thoughts determine attitude • Attitude determines actions • Actions determine outcomes.
