10th Grade Literature and Composition Mrs. Spiceland and Mrs. Connell Room 503
Welcome to Our Class! Happy first day of the fall semester, everyone! Let’s start today off by getting to know each other with a game called… Truth or Fiction?
Truth or Fiction? Here’s how we play! • Everyone will come up with THREE statements about themselves. • TWO statements should be TRUE. • ONE statement should be a LIE. • Next, Mrs. Connelland I will try and figure out which statement is the fictional one!
Mrs. Spiceland • I am a really big nerd; I love playing games like Warhammer 40,000, World of Warcraft, and Dungeons and Dragons. • We will watch a YouTube video every day in class this semester. • I have four cats: Schroedingerand Tesla, who are named after famous scientists; Vegas, so named because I got married in Las Vegas; and Memphis, who is named after the city where my husband was born.
Mrs. Connell • I am a Harry Potter maniac -- my ringtone was the theme from the Harry Potter movies. I even went to the Harry Potter theme park on my honeymoon. • I have three hypoallergenic dogs named Lily, Lola, and Molly. I have to clean up after them because my husband won’t pick up dog poop. • I had ten stitches in my forehead over the summer. I got them from fighting off a mugger who tried to take my iPhone. Don’t mess with Siri!
Let’s Pause for a Video! Buffalo buffalobuffalobuffalo buffalo….
Osborne10thLit.com • If you are absent, the first thing you want to ask is “Did we do anything yesterday?” • All class materials will be posted on the class blog – the daily video, any PowerPoints or worksheets, and any other important information. • Yep, I blog every day. Get ready to have “osborne10thlit.com!” pounded into your heads!
Classroom Rules • Be respectful and courteous of your teachers, your classmates, and yourself. • Be prepared each day when you come to class. That means having something to write with, paper, and any work you will need. • Be ready to actively participate in class. I will promise not to lecture and make you take notes all the time if you promise to respectfully participate when we do other things.
We have a candy machine! • I don’t know if you noticed, but there’s a candy machine sitting on my desk! Yes, you may get some Skittles. • It costs you a quarter to get a handful of Skittles out. The money will go towards refilling the machine, and at the end of the semester, I’ll clean it out entirely and we’ll have a party! • The only rule about the candy machine is to please not use it while I’m giving instructions – it’s kinda loud. • No, I do not have a quarter. No, I will not open the machine to give you change. Don’t ask.
I GOTTA PEE! • Passes! We will allow one student out of the room at a time. • The plunger is the hall pass. You may not leave the room without the plunger. If someone is out of the room with the plunger, you have to wait until they come back. If you pee your pants, take it up with them. • No student is allowed out of class during the first or last 10 minutes of any block.
A final word on rules… • When you enter my classroom, you do not go through a magical portal that removes you from Osborne High School. Therefore, all rules which are detailed in your student handbook are in force at all times. • This includesschool policies on cell phones and the dress code.
