  7. biographies • Read biography or autobiography. • Answer comprehension questions. • Pen pal dialogue. • Puzzle piece.

  8. Genre exploration • Read short stories: • Science fiction • Mystery • Fantasy • Realistic Fiction • Historical Fiction

  9. Teen read week • October 16 - 22 • Menu of Items • Class Competitions

  10. Written & Illustrated • Write and illustrate 16-page book. • Draft-revise-edit-final copy • Create characterization, dialogue, setting, and elements of plot. • Field trip to Eagle Elementary to share books.

  11. Nonfiction Research • Read about a topic of your choice. • Take notes. • Creatively share information learned with the class. • Watch presentations!

  12. Academy Awards • Nominate books in genres. • Read book in small groups. • Create book “preview” using moviemaker, music, pictures, and video clips. • Walk the red carpet and see awards given for best books. • Create acceptance speeches.

  13. Final Novel unit

Basic Skills • Elements of Fiction – plot, setting, theme, characterization, point of view, etc. • Vocabulary – context clues, synonyms, antonyms, dictionary, homophones, etc. • Word Parts – roots, prefixes & suffixes • Comprehension – reading strategies, inferences, main idea, cause & effect, conclusions, etc.
