Sat 31stAug 2013 Session 2 / Talk 1 10:35 – 10:45 BROOKLYN 2 RADIOTHERAPY Kareen GRIMSHAW ABSTRACT Australia And New Zealand Medical Radiation Research Network (ANZMRRN). This is an introduction to a fledgling group formed to promote, support and encourage research within the profession. The presentation will outline • the purpose of the group • members of the group • terms of reference • what has been achieved so far • future plans of the group
ANZMRRN Moving collaborative research forward for RTs
Background • Concept introduced in 2012 at the TRW at TROG • A steering committee across Australia and NZ has been formed • RTs • Data managers • Academics
Aim • The aim of this project is to provide a freely available research network to bring Australian and New Zealand radiation therapists (RTs) together in all aspects of research
Purpose of the network • To develop high quality RT led multi-disciplinary research projects that will benefit patients and staffacross Australia and New Zealand • Improve communication and collaboration between RT researchers in Australia and New Zealand • To facilitate international networking and collaboration opportunities • Initially with the Canadian Radiation Researchers through a link to the Canadian Radiation Research Network
Purpose of the Network • To provide resources and educational tools about research for novice researchers • Facilitate multi-centre research projects • Facilitate the path to publishing and the quality of publications written by RTs • Share and transfer knowledge through mentorship
Outcomes • An increase in RT participation in research • Development of high quality research projects driven by RTs • Increase capacity to develop high quality RT driven research that will benefit patients and staff through evidence based practice • Improved publication record
Endpoint • Primary endpoint is to have: • Improved the current RT workforce capacity to generate high quality multi-centre research projects that directly benefit Radiation therapy care in Australian and New Zealand • This will happen through collaboration via a central research network • Of equal importance is to assist novice researchers to engage in research activities though provision of useful research materials and mentorship
What's happened so far? • Discussions around structure and content of the web space and network • TROG will host the website • Looking to ask the PAEB for enough funding for the web-space and about a o.4 FTE project officer • A short survey to be distributed to all Australian and NZ RTs to inform the development of the network
The Survey • To provide the most relevant framework the questionnaire will cover • Your current level of research involvement • Your thoughts on the Network • Any additional support required • Ethics has been approved • Email distribution to all registered RTs in Australia and New Zealand
