Isaksson D. di Julio .5 m • These clusters are first to be used (+DSSD) for in-beam tests: - tagged photons (TUD, March 09) - protons (TSL, May or Sept. 09) ••••• to verify energy resolution under experimental conditions (cf. simulations, bench tests and first proton test) and to provide input for the final choice of readout device, geometry, surface treatment etc, before final production 5 mm *) USC design Module(s) available for Demonstrator ~October 09!!

Gamma energy resolution under ideal conditions - one detector hit in centre - under ideal conditions - the state of art for CsI(Tl) - 5.0 10.0 Energy resolution for gammas in alternative CALIFA/forward cap elements (210 mm CsI) black points --- measured green points --- simulated (GEANT4). 20.0 30.0 MeV Lorentz boosting barrel Barrel forward cap Forward cap Eg =10 MeV in CMS Eg =5 MeV in CMS Collected Light, channels V.Avdeichikov, 22.09.2008
Gamma energy resolution under realistic conditions(adding signals from surrounding detectors) Simulations point to the problems with the large Moliere radius E = 15 MeV Simulation figure! (show effect of wrapping comment LaBr housing) This figure just demonstrates the problem - Actual results are presented by Doug di Julio in the ”Simulations” session, Wednesday 09.00!
Proton energy resolution under ideal conditions In-beam test no 2: The Svedberg Laboratory, Uppsala, Sweden. Accepted proposal ”pending” (next possible run period 15 Jan. – 15 July 2009) Test beam developed: 180 MeV, 103s-1 uniformly over one cm2 (CWG-LU 2007). Beam sharing with therapy program. 90 MeV beam to be developed. Local support: Electronics pool, mechanical and electronics workshops, Local DAQ not recommended(private remark). Cost of beam time: Normally 400€/h. No cost for FAIR associated activities? k k This result was obtained for 180 MeV protons with an expected dispersion of 0.4 MeV energy resolution 0.4±0.2% Somewhat worse resolution is expected for CALIFA/barrel detectors Note that the inelastic loss of protons is 25.5% for 100 mm long detector
The harde question left for CALIFA/barrel is the choice of readout device and only when this is answered can we go on with questions concerning DAQ and the joint electronics (..... ASICs) with the tracker
