Important Dates • Friday, November 1: Principal and BESCA President Coffee from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. • Monday-Friday, November 4-8: Fall Conferences from 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. • Monday, November 11: Veteran’s Day (No School) • If you have not signed up for a conference time, please do so as soon as possible. The sign up sheets are available outside the classroom. The students will be dismissed from school at 12:05 the first week of November due to conferences. ELA News The spelling words for next week will include those with “s” clusters such as spell and snap. Students will also be introduced to silent beginning sounds such as kn, wr, and gn. Next week, the students will read and focus on a realistic fiction titled “Turkeys in the Trees.” The students will ask and answer questions to understand the text and learn about the bird which is central to Thanksgiving celebrations. As mentioned last week, please make sure your child is reading every day. Also, practice reading and spelling the 100 high frequency words. Students will continue to learn how to use subtraction within 10 to solve word problems. Students will understand subtraction as an unknown addend problem. For example, subtract 10-8 by finding the number that makes 10 when added to 8. Key vocabulary we will be using in the classroom for the next two weeks will be: known part, part + part = whole, missing part, the whole, difference, minus, equal, same as, and less than.
