LED PUBLIC LIGHTING_1 • Torraca is the world’s first town entirely illuminated with LED (Light-Emitting Diodes) streetlights (streets to access the town + old town centre) • 700 lighting spots • high energy efficiency technology of 80 LPW-lumens per Watt patented and installed by Elettronica Gelbison, a local start-up company specialised in electronic systems • minimum environmental impact • Forecast saving = 22.000 €/year also due to low maintenance requirements
LED PUBLIC LIGHTING_2 • Continuous monitoring activity by illumination engineers • November 2007: Agreement between Council + Academic Consortium + Elettronica Gelbison + CREE Corporation • Set up of the World’s Centre for LED lighting technologies
ACADEMIC CONSORTIUM • Academic Consortium “Cilento e Vallo di Diano” in partnership with the Second University of Naples Improve skills + raise awareness on sustainable development • Master’s degree in ‘‘Environmental Law & Renewable energy technology’’ • Degree in Political Sciences: International co-operation on the Environment and energy (Faculty of Political Science ‘‘Jean Monnet’’)
PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANTS_1 • 4 photovoltaic plants (45,5 kW each) • Each plant produces around 200.000 kWh/year • Providing electricity • for the local sport facilities (go-kart, swimming pool) • A surplus that is sold to the National Grid • Substantial environmental benefits: ↓122 t CO2
PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANTS_2technical features • Power: 45,5 kW • Modules: 308 • -Modules power: 148 W SharpND-N8E3EF 148 W • -Inverter: SanwayTG53 elettronica Santerno • -Installation type: on the ground • No modules strings: 22 • No strings: 14 • Estimated Production: approx. 63.000 kWh/yr (1 plant) • Return: approx. 36.000 €/yr (1 plant) • CO2 savings: 122 t /year (3 plants) • Monitoring 24/24 through the server ‘‘Elettronica Santerno’’ connected to GPRS system alerting via sms in case of malfunctions/attempt of theft. • Plants located in 2 different areas
ECO-FRIENDLY SWIMMING POOL RETROFITTING PROJECT • Solar technology installed (25sm) • 50% less evaporation consumption thanks to a new patented system of isothermiccover for swimming pool. • 50 Kw PV panels + indoor & outdoor LED lighting system. • Torraca partner of the “Comuni AzzeroCO2” : Network of towns for best practice promoting sustainable development supported by AzzeroCO2 and founded by Legambiente, Ambiente Italia & Kyoto Club

SVILUPPO TORRACA Limited _2 • Will produce PV modules - Create jobs (around 20) - Incubation centre for young researchers • Develop R&D on renewables • Innovation: • Advanced technology plant machinery and equipment, connected to a computerised systems to allow them to interface with each other as well as work autonomously • balanced and comprehensive cycle: selection of the PV cells assembling process
SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT: MONORAIL • Touristic destination thanks to the beautiful location and landscape • Sits on a hill on the edge of the Cilento & Vallo di Diano National Park • Breathtaking seaview • Ongoing project: monorail • Linking Sapri with Torraca • National Underused Areas Fund – FAS • Around 10.000 m2 • Powered by Photovoltaic system of 50Kw Aim dramatic improvements of the road transport CO2 emissions & Parking particulates
WIND FARM • Ongoing project • approx. 13 MW • Aim to supply energy at the surrounding population of 20,000 • 5 wind turbines of 850 Kw • Location: hill • Minimum environmental impact • Wind farm+LED+ solar thermal PV Part of the strategy for a self-sustainable micro-economic model + trainships for students
