Extension and Rural Business Development Super Goal Rayon development in form of the poverty reduction and sustainable livelihoods of the rural population.
Goals 1. Accessibility of primary agricultural producers to the financial resources 2 . Establishment of the layer of taxpayers in rural areas 3 . Rural business development 4. Extension service development 5. Farmers self sufficiency with agricultural products 6. Providing local processing industries with raw materials 7. Stages • Establishment of DFID FCGS team regional office in Terdjola Rayon • Establishmentof Initiative Groups with the local administration representatives • Establishment of Target Group out of the representatives of rayon villages and farmers’ unions • Research and analysis of population needs • Market research and analysis • Cooperation with Initiative and Target groups to identify rayon’s development priority • Preparation of Initiative proposals and projects • Restructuring and planning of local budget according to the projects prepared • Identifying the capacity of local resources mobilization and attraction of investments • Implementation of initiatives and projects

Achievements of Terdjola rayon development Education - Free secondary education (before project implementation) - Repairs of 3 secondary schools in Terdjola, Gardubani, Kvakchiri are finalized - Repairs of 2 secondary schools in Nakshirgele, Terjola are ongoing - Repair of 1 kindergarden in Nakshirgele is finalized - Repairs of 2 kindergardens in Chognari, Zeda Simoneti are ongoing - Building of one new school in village Cknari
Achievements of Terdjola rayon development Infrastructure and energy supply sphere - 24 hour constant electricity supply - Building of direct electricity supply system connected to Dzevri hydroelectric power station of 4 villages is ongoing - Each inhabitant of the rayon receives subsidies of $2.5 for paying gas taxes (from the local budget) - Renewing of roads is ongoing - Free communal service system is implemented in the rayon

Lessons Learned - Farmers unions should be formed voluntarily, on the basis of interested motives - Cost-effective activities should be financed, which will guarantee their sustainability and will fill the local budget - Cooperation with the local administration and the ministry of agriculture and food is necessary - Essential conditions for problems solution are identification of problems’ causes, complex plan development and effective utilization of the existed experiences - Action plan should be based on the market research and population problems and needs analysis undertaken in the rayon
