Alice in wonderland syndrome… By Courtney Smith 10 orange
What is it? Alice in wonderland syndrome (AIWS) is a mental illness. This disease causes you to see something smaller or bigger than what it should be. For example in a room you would feel like the walls were right next to you or closing in on you or you might see a bird and you may see it a lot bigger than what it is meant to be.
Symptoms • Altered body image • Seeing the size of objects inaccurately • Migraines • Loosing a sense of time; time may seem to move extremely quickly or very slowly • Hallucinations or misinterpreting situations • Vision becomes warped
What causes it? • Brain tumours can result in temporary AIWS • Using some illegal drugs • If you have some form of epilepsy it can contribute to AIWS • It is most common in children
How to treat it • Most cases of AIWS cant be cured and have to wear out eventually • Doctors say that communicating with others that have the disease can help you understand your condition and fight it better
How many people have it Only a small number of people in the world suffer from this illness but no one has a certain number of people. It is an illness that is more common in women.
