Pakistan earthquake (2005) - 17,000 school children died in collapsed infrastructures
A reminder: One billion children aged 1-14 live in countries with high seismic risk

Why Disaster Risk Reduction in Education? Children are most vulnerable to disasters
Physical safety – deaths, injuries, disability, etc
Educational access and continuity – disruption of learning activities, etc
Psychological wellbeing – lasting impacts, etc
But, at the same time, they can be an effective means to build a culture of safety and disaster resilience
