  3. I-WALK Partnership & Purpose Assist communities in the development,implementation, and evaluation of local Safe Routes to School programs

  4. I-WALK Goal To develop a sustainable model for community coalitions to continuously update, implement, and evaluate the local Safe Routes to School (SRTS) plan.

  6. 1. Community Coalition • Local Public Health • School Representatives: teachers, principals, parent, student • Citizens: grandparents, community organizations and clubs • Parks and Recreation department • Public safety, School Resource Officer, Law Enforcement • City Planners • DNR

  7. 2a. Evaluation: Parent & Student online Survey • Identifies current routes students take to/from school • Identifies barriers to walking or biking to school • Complete by Sept. 28th • Results back to coalitions

  12. 2c. Evaluation: GPS Walkability Assessment • Coalition and community members walk routes identified by the parent & student survey • GPS is used to collect data and sent back to ISU Extension for analysis

  13. 3. GPS & Program Training, TA • 1 Day training and mapping of routes • Overview of GPS use and data collection • Occur late Sept./Oct. 2012 • Technical assistance provided by IDPH & ISUE

  14. 4. Presentation to community • May/June 2013 present data results and recommendations to community • Next steps to Safer Routes to School • Invite coalition members, community, and stakeholders • Webinars early 2013

Public Health Role Summarized • Identify and work with one 3rd-5th elementary school. • Form an I-Walk coalition or work with an existing coalition to add I-Walk project (meet monthly). • Recruit parents/students to complete on-line survey (by end of Sept). • Coordinate Teacher Tally and enter results on line (last wk Sept). • Attend, facilitate and recruit volunteers for GPS Walkability Assessment (late Sept/Oct). • Provide compensation to schools for parent/child survey. • Promote attendance at community presentation (May/June). • Complete an on-line monitoring survey (every month). • Provide feedback on program, training, support materials.

  17. Compensation Each Local Public Health will receive $4500 for contract duties. Payments will be issued after completion of designated activity. Ex.
