EXPLORING HONOR: FACTORS ENHANCING HONOR CONCERNS; UNDERPINNING EMOTIONS & PUNISHMENT PREFERENCES Gulnaz Anjum & Thomas Kessler
Definition of Honor Having honor means to be entitled to recognition respect because of being a member in a particular social group which is defined by an honor code (Appiah, 2010). “Honor is not opinion people have of particular qualities which a man may happen to possess exclusively: it is rather the opinion they have of qualities which a man may be expected to exhibit, and to which he should not prove false. Honor therefore, means that a man is not exceptional; fame that he is. Fame is something that much be won; honor, only something that must not be lost” (Schopenhauer, 1851, p. 91). • Honor group • Honor code • Recognition respect • Entitlement
