Mission: The 1872 Society will exist to recognize fraternities and sororities and their members who actively live out the ideals of fraternities and sororities every day. Criteria: all chapters with 15 percent of their membership participating in National Volunteer Week (NVW) for a minimum of two hours per person. NVW is April 16-24. Each chapter will coordinate activities taking place during NVW in partnership with the Office of Volunteer Programs (OVP). At the completion of the activities, chapter presidents will provide simple documentation that their organization met the 15 percent requirement.

Recognition Process • Certificate of participation at the 2005 Greek Excellence Awards • Letter of commendation to their respective (inter)national headquarters • Listing of participation at the Greek Affairs website which is accessed by potential members and their parents daily • All participating groups will be entered into a raffle. Six chapters will be picked to split $1872 (generously supported by the Adlon Jorgensen Greek Life Endowment) • Invitation to participate in the NVW recognition event on Friday, April 23 from 12 to 2
