Policy • Ensure that research involving human subjects is conducted in • an ethical manner and • compliance with national standards. • Requires research or other studies involving human subjects meet the standards outlined by the TCPS
Ethics Education Committee MANDATE: Educate the campus community about ethical issues in research (including integrity in research), and about current structures and processes for ethics review.
Educational Functions • Plan, publicize, and implement seminars • Provide material to campus community • Provide consultation on research ethics education • Communicate with departments to share news, discussion, and announcements
Memorandum of Understanding • Signed between the University and the Tri-Councils • Must comply in order to receive federal funding
MOU requirement • promote education for, and provide training opportunities to, members of the Institution's community in the area of ethics of research involving humans
GSR 985 • Introduction to Ethics and Integrity • Non-credit course • Applicable to any discipline • Teaches understanding & analyzing ethical principles, dilemmas & responsibilities • Running for 15 years
Goal for GSR 985 • Promote more actively • Departments that do not have a grad course in ethics require students to attend
Workshop • Half day • Held in September RISK
