So We Know the Answer Before we Hear the Question V2: And so it was reported to the House of David, saying, “Aram has allied with Ephraim.” And then it shook, his heart and the heart of his people like the shaking of the trees of the forest in the face of the wind.
Trust and Fear Not Fearing God Not Trusing God, Heb 4:1 = Not Trusting God Fearing Man =
The Word of God Speaks to Historical Circumstances V3 So then YHWH spoke to Isaiah, “Go out, please, with the purpose of meeting Achaz, you and Sha’ar Yashub, your son, To the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the road to the fuller’s (washer’s) field

The Human Threat V5-6: On account of this: For he has planned against you, Aram, evil, Ephraim and the son of Remalyahu, saying, “Let us go up against Judah and terrorize her and take her by assault for us and establish as king in her midst the son of Tabal!”
The Real Problem in the Story • All the human rulers in this story have forgotten the One Ruler Who matters. • In calculating the best way to maintain their power and freedom from Assyria they have forgotten the Source of power and freedom. • They are simply applying human solutions to human problems because they go only by what they see.
Major Point in the Kings and Prophets: IN WHOM DO YOU TRUST FOR YOUR LIFE?
V7-9a: Who’s the Boss “Thus says the Lord (Adonai) YHWH, “ ‘It will not stand, nor will it happen. “ ‘For the head of Aram is Damascus “ ‘And the head of Damascus is Retziyn “ ‘And in the duration of sixty and five years it will be shattered, Ephraim, from a people “ ‘And the head of Ephraim is Samaria “ ‘And the head of Samaria is the son of Remalyahu.
V9b: Who is the Head of Judah? “ ‘If you all do not believe, then you all will not be stabilized.’” If you all do not believe that I am stable/firm/faithful then you all will not be stable/firm/faithful.
The Missing Link • In Isaiah 6 we saw that the Israelites would not be able to see, hear, or understand. • In Isaiah 7 we see Isaiah functioning for the first time as a mediator to other humans. • In other words ch1-6 is introductory, summary, and for a general readership. Ch 7 depicts Isaiah prophecying specifically for Achaz and his court. • V9b shows the reason why they will not be able to see, hear, or understand: they do not believe. • This rejection is a function of individual volition, and it is the fundamental problem between God and man after the fall. • Man does not believe.
The basis for judgment on Judah in v9b is lack of faith. • This is the pattern for all post-Fall judgment. • God illustrates the unbelief by prophetic revelation to Achaz. • The sign He offers the vassal king will define the pattern for all human blessing and judgment: the Virgin Birth.
