Bio Sketch • Born near Vernon, Texas • Earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in dairy manufacturing from Texas Tech University • Doctorate in dairy foods and dairy chemistry was completed at North Carolina State University • Taught at MSU from 1952-1990 • Served for 34 years as a U.S. Department of Agriculture dairy products grader • Former Interim Department Head of Dairy Science at Mississippi State University

MAFES Sales Store dairy products section became the Cardwell Cheese Shoppe on April 28, 2006. • Dr. Cardwell was instrumental in teaching generations of Mississippi State University students how to produce the popular Edam, Cheddar, and cottage cheese.
