  1. Northampton Rugby League Club Registration Day April 10th 2010

Northampton Rugby League Club Mission Statement To provide opportunities for both males and females of all ages to play the sport of Rugby League in Northampton in a safe and enjoyable environment. To develop the players as sportsmen and women so they can progress as far as possible within the sport. To continue to develop the club, its players and administrators so Northampton Rugby League Club reaches its full potential within the structure of the game. We are an amateur club with a professional outlook.

The club was founded in 2007 by 4 Rugby League enthusiasts. • Originally only an adult team was planned • This team competed in a Merit League in 2007. 8 games were played, 2 victories, 1 draw and 5 defeats • Olney parents contacted club and asked about their children playing RL and as they say the rest is history! • This year the plan is to run 11 teams – Under 11, 12, 14 * 2, 16 * 2, 18, Academy, 1st team, Women’s and Under 12 Girls • The adult team are the current RLC Regional Champions. The club is the Midlands RL Club of the Year and Junior Development Club of the Year. The Under 12’s are the champions of their competition. Background to the Club

General Club Information • Training nights are Tuesday’s for 11’s, 12’s & 14’s 7pm – 8.30pm • Wednesday nights 16’s,18’s & Adults 7pm – 8.30pm • Thursday nights Women & Under 12 Girls 7pm – 8.30pm • We are Clubmark Gold accredited (1st club in Midlands to achieve this award) and have a Club Welfare Officer • Website – www.northamptonrl.co.uk – currently being revamped • Adult fixtures generally Saturday afternoon with Juniors playing on a Sunday against teams such as Nottingham, Derby, Nth Derbyshire, Birmingham, Coventry and Telford.

  5. Information – cont’d • Fully constituted with proper accounts. Fully insured. • Any club official who comes into contact with children is CRB checked. We are focused on the welfare of the child. • We part fund a Community Rugby League Coach whose job it is to coach Rugby League in schools. If you want RL in your school please let us know. • Our aim is to provide the best environment to play the sport and develop the juniors into the adult players of the future – self sustaining. • 5 year deal to be based here so we can plan for the future. • Very approachable, no cliques and we enjoy ourselves!

Information – cont’d • 2009 Season was our most successful so far • Adult team were unbeaten throughout the season and were crowned as National Champions of Co-operative Rugby League Regional Conference • Under 12’s crowned Kukri Champions, Under 14’s beaten finalists & Under 16’s beaten semi finalists • 120 junior players registered with club • 45 Club Volunteers recognised by the club • 3 junior players signed scholarships with Sheffield Eagles, 3 players at Quins RL & highest club representation in East Mids & Midlands squads

  7. Registration • Existing players with ID cards do not need to complete Rugby Football League form. New players do. 2 passport photographs and proof of age required for new players. • All players to complete and return membership form. This document includes club rules for players, parents and club officials. • Also complete council monitoring form as with that we can apply for funding. • Database completed for all players and used to communicate with parents. Access is limited to that information. • Junior player registration allows 1 parent to vote at club meetings.

  8. Competition Formats • Under 11’s & 12’s – Festival formats – clubs come together and play many fixtures on one day. Not a league format for the Under 12’s as lessons learnt from 2009 season • Under 14’s & 16’s – league format with 8 regular fixtures. Eventual winners decided by semi finals and finals • Under 18’s – will play fixtures with the Academy team and may play fixtures purely as an Under 18 team • East vs West Mids at various age groups • Season runs 9th May till 15th August with 9’s tournaments before and after season

  9. Supporting our Club • To run 11 teams is no mean feat and is an achievement we should all be proud of. • This work is done for the benefit of the players. Within our club we play a role in improving health and fitness, increasing skill levels of the players, making friends and at the end of it all we’ll win games and competitions. • To continue to provide first class opportunities for your children and sustain the rapid growth of the club we need your support. • Where do we need that assistance?

  10. What support do we need? • First Aiders, Team Managers, Assistant Coaches, Kit Managers, Setting up and emptying of pitches, Volunteer Coordinators, Match Reporters, Photographers. These roles will support your child. • Providing food for our team (your child) and the opponents • Parent representatives – a link from team / player to the club • Many hands make light work!! The more support we have the smoother the training and matches go and the better an experience we can provide for your children and you. • The club supports and recognises its volunteers so please come forward and offer your assistance please.

  11. Do’s and Don’ts • Respect the facilities, they are excellent and we have an very good relationship with the RU club. We would like to keep it that way. Use the bins that are located around the grounds and don’t leave rubbish on pitch. • Respond to e mails sent – it helps the sender of the mail to plan. • Be prompt • Don’t swear on the sidelines – it is not a good example to set to the players. Encourage not berate the players. • Help Elaine out where you can. She puts herself out for us way beyond the call of duty.

  12. Summary • If you have a question ask the coach. If he/she can’t answer then we will. • You are part of a growing club, we never stand still. • If you know of any potential sponsors please let us know. If you know of any security requirements within companies, please refer them to www.pdpsecurity.co.uk as we can earn commission. • Spread the word to other players and parents. Word of mouth is the best PR for the club. • Enjoy the sport and the summer. You never know you may get a sun tan!! • Thanks for listening
