4. Welcome to Temple We know you are extremely busy on the ward and ICU services
During the electives, balance education and time to do things
5. Background
The goal of this presentation is to review what is expected on the resident electives
Especially when 2 activities are happening at the same time
6. All Electives Call the fellow or the elective director the day before the elective is scheduled
Let them know what days you will be out or on reserve
They in turn will tell you where and when you need to be there for your first day
7. Reading Day The reading day is for a resident who is starting the elective and is coming off of a call month (floors, units, chief, extra, NF)
Not for those coming off another elective, ambulatory etc
The reading day is only one day
If a clinic is accidentally scheduled during the reading day, contact Larry Ward or Gina to have it rescheduled
(give them a few weeks notice though)
8. Morning Report For R1’s, intern morning report is on Thursdays at 9 am
It is expected that interns go to Thursday morning report while on all electives
You are also expected to go to CPC/M &M /Grand Rounds while on the electives as well
10. “Outpatient Electives”Endocrine, Rheum, HIV, & Outpatient Pulm, GI, Cards These electives are structured with an emphasis on outpatient clinics and clinic based teaching
During these electives, attendance in clinic is important
Unfortunately am clinics and morning report coincide
11. Endocrine This elective is split in two 2 week blocks: outpatient and inpatient
Please contact Dr. Elias Siraj the day before the elective
During the outpatient half, it is expected that you go to clinic at 8:00
R1s go to Thursday intern conference
12. Rheumatology Rheum is both an inpatient and outpatient elective
Please contact Dr. Audrey Uknis at 2-2078 the day before the rotation
They have “fellow” clinics on Monday and Thursday mornings, and Attending clinics on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings
13. Rheumatology During this elective all residents should go to Rheum clinic on Monday at 8:30 am
On Thursday, all residents should go to Rheum grand rounds at 8, then at 9, interns should go to MR
On Tues, Wed, Fri, residents should go to MR
14. HIV All residents should contact Dr. Cissy Van den Berg prior to the elective
All residents should go to clinic on Mon and Tuesday mornings at 8:30 am
All R1’s should go to morning reports on Thursdays
On Wednesdays and Fridays, if clinic is slow, you can go to morning reports
The ID fellows will give 2 HIV lectures during the block in the ID office
16. “Inpatient Electives” Cards, GI, Heme, ID, Pulm These are hospital based electives where rounds are in the afternoon
Always go to R1 morning report on Thursdays
It is expected that on other days you go to the electives if there is a conflict, otherwise you can go to morning reports
