Steps taken so far… Education: • A rural awareness program was run in Haryana for 100 below poverty line families (BPL, earning less than 2 euros a day) • Focusing on education for kids between 7 to 14 , health awareness and women empowerment • 125 kids were given education in college campus for free with an objective to bring them into mainstream education • 200 women were collected and awareness was spread about government schemes and policies • 115 kids were admitted to government local school and 15 women were admitted into teacher training program to be self dependant • Audio tutorials were recorded for visually challenged people in collaboration with All India Confederation of the Blind and National School of Blinds. Steps taken so far… Handicrafts sector: • Indian Handicrafts is one of the decentralized sectors in the country which gives employment to 6 million workers • A pilot was run in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh with Chanderi weavers (a hand woven cloth from MP)and idol makers in Delhi (one of the most important sector) • Provided them livelihood training and brought their products to mainstream exhibitions • We worked with 92 families staying in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi employed in making idols and weaving sarees • Outreach of 600 craftsmen directly benefitted and target is to expand it to 2000 by the end of the year LINKS TO WORK VIDEOS: SAKSHAM PROJECT | SUSTAINABILITY PILOT
Steps taken so far… Sustainability sector: • Skill development workshops have been conducted in the 10 colleges located across 4 states • Outreach of about 1750 students, prime focus has been on technology and sustainability in daily life • In collaboration with Nokia- Create to Inspire and Oxfam, India this program is being run successfully across 5 universities • The scale up model which is to be launched this August is a Sustainability Olympiad which will be conducted across schools and colleges in Delhi-NCR • Having a target outreach of 500,000 students from age group between 15 t0 21 LINKS TO WORK VIDEOS: SAKSHAM PROJECT | SUSTAINABILITY PILOT
