  3. BEPCII/BESIII BEPC: Beijing Electron Positron Collider • Started in 1989 • 2~5GeV/C • Being upgraded to Dual-Ring, (3~10)×1032 cm-2s-1 • 27 Universities and Institutes from US, UK, Japan, Korea and China. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 3

  4. BESIII Computing • CPU:>1000 P-IV/3GHz CPU for data production/reconstructionand physics analysis • Storage:more than 3PB in 5 years. • Network:for international/domestic communications Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 4

  5. YBJ-ARGO/AS • Italy,Japan-China cosmic ray observatories in Tibet. • 200TB raw data per year. • Data transferred to IHEP and processed with 400 CPUs. • Rec. data accessible by collaborators. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 5

  7. Multipurpose Platform • A multipurpose platform is supposed for ‘all experiments’ • LCG is the solution for LHC but • LCG could also be the solution for other experiments. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 7

  8. LCG Testbed • LCG testbed at IHEP: • RB, UI, CE, SE, Myproxy, MON (R-GMA), BDII, • WNs with 20 Xeon CPUs. • 3TB RAID. • China HEP CA, Registration Service at Beijing site, Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 8

  10. LCG Testbed • LHC, BESIII softwares are running • Trying to port YBJ to LCG, cooperating between CNIC and IHEP. Supported by NSFC. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 10

  11. YBJ-ARGO • Established a 8Mb/s link from Tibet to Beijing, by CNIC. To be upgraded to 155Mb/s soon. Stopped bringing tapes from last month. • Building a computing system based on LCG,collaboration of IHEP, CNIC, INFN, EUChinaGrid application of EU FP6 project. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 11

  14. Castor deployment • Castor as mass storage management was installedon ADIC tape library. • Could be the storage system for the large scale Tier-1 Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 14

  16. New Resources • Adding 30 new CPUs and a few TB, at IHEP. • Installing LCG on 32-64 IA64 CPUs, at CNIC. Scheduled to be complete in one month. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 16

  22. Prospects (1) – Tier-1 • Up to 2008: A Tier-1 should be ready. • Support all experiments, if we get strong support from funding agencies. • At least for CMS (and ATLAS), if the budget is limited. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 22

  25. Prospects (4) – Tier-1 • Resources can be efficiently shared. • Cost will be shared.BES, YBJ may merge their resources to build a bigger Tier-1. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 25

  26. Why Tier-1: Essential for LHC • A Tier-1 is essential for the Chinese physicists involved in LHC experiments.China contributed a lot on building LHC detectors. Physicists need a tool to access and analyze LHC data.No computing, no physics! Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 26

  28. Why Tier-1: other HEP exp. • LCG can be used for other HEP experiments. Good Example: BES software has already been ported on to LCG platform. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 28

  29. Why Tier-1: More Applications • LCG can be the grid platform for many other applications, both Academic and Industrial. • Operating a Tier-1Center itself will generate great technologies andexperiences. Gang Chen/CC/IHEP 2014/9/14 - 29
