Possible 3PP2 Changes Ed Tiedemann Chair, 3GPP2 TSG-C tsgc_chair@3gpp2.org 6 August 2012
Possible Restructuring of TSGs The 3GPP2 leadership has been exploring the restructuring of the TSGs • Want to broaden the discussion with entire community to collect feedback and identify issues • Leadership elections in December; thus, if changes are to be made, would be logical time • Any decision would likely be at the October SC meeting in Sapporo
Possible Restructuring of TSGs The objectives are: • Ensure 3GPP2 continues to support the development of technical specifications for the cdma2000 community in a more effective manner. • Optimize the meetings by leveraging the synergies in the work between TSG-A and TSG-C, and between TSG-S and TSG-X • Realize possible cost savings in terms of actual meeting requirements (number of rooms, secretarial support, etc.)
Merged Organization WG2 Femto IOS WG1 Program Management WG3 CDMA IOS
Merger Aspects • TSG-A Program Management aspects (TSG-A WG1) would merge into TSG-C WG1 • TSG-A Femto IOS (TSG-A WG2) and TSG-A CDMA IOS (TSG-A WG3) would merge into WG5 • There could be additional restructuring in legacy TSG-C aspects if they resulted in additional improvements • Currently should determine whether any serious problems • May require some thinking though how a merged TSG-A and TSG-C would operate and identify any issues • SC meeting in October would make decision on whether to merge • Any decisions on how a merged TSG A and C would actually work can be done after the agreement on the merging. These would be internal to the merged TSG.
Merger Aspects (continued) • Documents would maintain C.x or A.x nomenclature • Any new document that is created would use a C.x or an A.x format, depending upon which is appropriate • It is expected that WG5 would need about 12 hours/week • To keep costs down, trying to fit into a total of six meeting rooms for all TSGs during f2f meetings • TSG-C would get three rooms plus perhaps some of a 4th room (maybe needed when SWG4.2 meets)
