  1. Get Ready Orientation: Transition & Success Tips This presentation contains information that will be helpful regardless of the program you are entering. It is provided as a supplement to and not a replacement for any other orientation program(s) to which you have been or will be directed.

  2. Transition Tip #1 Understand that what is expected of a high school student is different from what is expected of a college student.

  4. Transition Tip #2 Understand personal responsibility and what this means for you as a college student.

  5. Personal Responsibility As a student… Keep up with the class schedule and the course material (absence is not an excuse). Complete assigned reading & review notes daily. Realize that 90% of learning will take place outside of the classroom (Hint: Study and do homework). Access the academic assistance the College provides. If you need to visit the tutor, and don’t, the consequences are yours. Take responsibility for learning.

  8. Success Tip #2: Know what to expect on the first day of class. To meet for class (attendance counts) To receive a *syllabus To take notes *A syllabus is a document that includes course goals, required textbooks, grading policies, etc.

  9. Success Tip #3:Be prepared for class Arrive on time Complete assigned reading, etc. prior to class (Hint: Use a planner!) Buy your books & take them to each class Keep a separate notebook/binder for each course Make sure you have the supplies that you need for your class: paper, pen, etc.

  11. Success Tip #5: Understand the Role of your Advisor What is my advisor’s role? How do I find out who my advisor is? When do I meet with my advisor? How do I prepare to meet my advisor?
