PRODUCERS OF RAYON Trade names are used within the rayon industry to determine the type of rayon used. Viscose rayon was first introduced in Coventry England in 1905 by Courtaulds. Modal and Tencel are widely used forms of rayon produced by Lenzing AG which is based in northern Austria. Tencel, generic name lyocell, is made by a slightly different solvent recovery process, and is considered a different fiber by the US FTC. Rayon is manufactured regenerated cellulose fiber Because it is obtained from naturally occurring polymers it is not a synthetic fiber . Rayon is known by name viscose rayon and art silk in textile industry . It has high luster quality .
Famous Rayon Brands- • Galaxy , danufil and vilof are rayon brands produced by Kelhim Fibers ,a German manufacturer. • Grasim of India is the largest producer of rayon in the world.
What is rayon ? • A fibre having properties similar to that of silk was obtained by chemical treatments of wood pulp. This fibre was called rayon or artificial silk.
Uses of rayon • 1. Rayon can imitate the feel and texture of silk,wool,cotton and linen so it is mixed with cotton to make bed sheets or mixed with wool to make carpets. • 2. Rayon fabrics are smooth,cool and comfortable.Rayon can be easily dyed in a wide range of colours. • 3.It is used in making apparels (for example- dresses,jackets,linnings,suits,hatsetc.)
